The Human Brain
Written By: Turin Sayed
The brain is the main control center of your body. It controls all your veins and nerves. It lets you feel your emotions and your feelings. There are billions of microscopic cells called neurons in the brain and they sends electrical and chemical messages to your body. Scientists say that it is the most complex thing in the universe.
What Is The Brain Made Out Of
The brain is made out of 75% water and it consists of 100 billion neurons. There are about one thousand to ten thousand synapses (the connecting part of neurons) that connect all the neurons together. There is about 100,000 miles of blood vessels in your body that connect to your brain. The Brain is the fattest organ in the body, with 60% of fat in it. The brain weighs about 3 pounds .
Interesting fact: New neural connections are formed when you create a memory.
Cerebrum
The cerebrum is the biggest part of the brain. It is grey and wrinkly and it is the top part of the brain. The surface of the cerebrum is called the cerebral cortex. There are lots of different parts in the cerebrum and they all do something different. For example, the back part deals with your vision, the left side deals with language, and other sections deal with other functions such as movement, hearing, touch and intelligence/problem solving.
Interesting fact: The human body has the same consistency of some Tofu.

Cerebellum
At the back and the bottom of the brain there is something called the cerebellum. This part of the brain gives your muscles signals when they have to move. So the brain gives motor messages to you muscles to do certain movements. For example, if you kick a football, the cerebellum sends a motor message to your leg muscles and then the leg moves. The cerebellum basically helps us practice different movements that are hard or something new
like bike riding or running, skipping, knitting and much more. The cerebellum allows us to do all of these things. It also helps us with posture which means that we can stand up straight.
Interesting Fact: When you learn something new your structure of your brain changes
Brain damage - Concussion
Concussion is a type of brain damage that is caused when our head gets hurt or is knocked by a very hard object. You might only have a bump or a bruise but it could temporarily change the way your brain works. The bone in your skull and the fluid inside the skull (called spinal fluid) helps protect the brain. The bone protects our brain from external things and the spinal fluid acts like a cushion for the brain. Imagine you were playing basketball and the ball is rock hard and it directly hits your head, there might be a bump on your head, but at that moment the skull shifts and the brain starts moving back and forth, banging against the bones, this then causes the brain gets damaged. That is what causes concussion.
Interesting Fact: Using technology long-term increases the risk of getting brain tumor.
Conclusion
The human brain is the most fascinating and complex thing in the world. Now we know the main parts of the brain like cerebrum and cerebellum and the well known brain damage called concussion.
Interesting Fact: When awake there's enough electricity in your brain to power a small light bulb.
