Butterflies
Written By: Aliya Mohammed
Butterflies are beautiful insects that live anywhere between 2 days to 11 months. They go through a 4 step process called metamorphosis. It starts with an egg, then hatches into a caterpillar, and then they transform into a chrysalis (cacoon), the forth and final stage is the full butterfly.
Diet
Butterfly diets include nectar and other liquids. They do not have mouths like other animals, instead they have a straw like tongue and mouth that they use to suck and drink nectar and other liquids. When a butterfly lands on a flower, they taste it with their feet because their taste sensors are on their feet just below the knees. They then drink the nectar with their straw like tongues.
Predators
Butterflies are fragile and defenseless creatures. Butterflies have many predators (enemies) such as spiders, birds, wasps and other insects. Their predators also include reptiles and small mammals. It's not easy for butterflies to just fly away from their predator. Spiders make cobwebs that are very long and big for a butterfly to get caught in one.
